Let’s Go Glamping – a far cry from a log cabin, yet all the camping fixings at my finger tips

Lake Rosseau is located about 200 km (two and a half hours), North of Toronto, surrounded by beautiful cottages, the great Canadian outdoors and several charming communities such as Port Carling, Minett, Windermere,  and Port Sandfield. A popular vacation destination for countless years, Rosseau is the ideal retreat from city life. Nestled in the trees and facing the lake itself, you will find JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka, about to celebrate its tenth year since its opening in December 2008.

At the commencement of summer, the resort unveiled its newly redesigned public spaces to guests and I was one of the lucky first visitors to see it firsthand. Designed by mackaywong, the new look is sleek and contemporary, while maintaining an authentic Muskoka vibe. Vacationers and business travelers alike can continue to enjoy stunning lake views in an elevated style. I personally loved the Muskoka Room best with its birch pattern wall paper, majestic lamps, and scenic views of the terrace, gardens and lake below.

I even had the opportunity to hop in a canoe and work up an appetite before dinner. With a wide variety of activities on the grounds, guests can make use of canoes, kayaks, SUPs, pedal boats and bikes. Also available are guided Segway tours, zip lines and arboreal tree climb for the more adventurous. I really appreciated the activities being so easy to access, making it seamless and smooth for anyone of any skill level to enjoy mother nature. I especially made note of the friendliness and helpful attitude of the staff, something to which I pay close attention. It really felt like a big family vacationing together while there, and they go above and beyond to make you feel welcome during your stay.

Now to get to the highlight – the food of course! The property boasts five spectacular restaurants plus a Country Market to grab a snack or quick smoothie on the go. During my stay, I had a glass of wine at Lakes Lobby Bar, before dining at Teca, a quaint classic Italian restaurant and recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for the past three years. The charcuterie board was my weakness! So many treats and so filling! But luckily I saved room for some of their famous lobster ravioli!

Being in Muskoka from dusk to dawn was a welcome reminder of how beautiful my country is and how proud I am to be Canadian.  As Marriott describes it themselves, the resort allows guests to “explore nature on their terms” which is exactly what I invite you to do. I look forward to going back to Muskoka and dropping in to the see smiling faces at JW Marriot The Rosseau very soon.
