Benjamin Lillico, the Executive Chef for The Rich Uncle Tavern located in downtown Kitchener, graciously extended an invitation to experience the newly revived dining space (formerly The Berlin).  I, of course, accepted with excitement and jotted the night in my calendar. The city of Kitchener, after all, is my hometown, and I had already heard so many great things about this place. It’s a feeling of pride that overcomes me when I see the downtown modernizing and growing into a true marketplace where locals can come for shopping, socializing and dining on fabulous (and true quality) food.

The Rich Uncle Tavern is built on hearty live-fire fare and shareable snacks that pay homage to the brasseries and taverns of yesteryear, with both charming and comfortable surroundings. The lively group of individuals who work here are the most pleasant and friendly people going, and you will feel like you’re amongst friends immediately. Here you may stop to enjoy lunch, dinner, a more casual bar menu, and uniquely crafted cocktails

I was spoiled by Benjamin as I had the opportunity to sample quite a few items on the menu for my dinner while watching the open concept kitchen, alive with activity. There is also seating options at the bar, the upstairs study, the cozy booths, or the outdoor patio facing King Street. The Rich Uncle Tavern also provides catering services and accommodates private events, so they really do provide it all.

I left full and happy that evening, knowing full well I’d recommend this spot to anyone who appreciates a true foodie experience. If you are looking for a merry ol’ time with a sort of Peaky Blinders feel, you should certainly hit this spot up straight away!
